Letter: Modern witchhunt perplexes (Nov. 2)

I keep thinking about the recent news article about fanatical churches in Nigeria which have tortured and killed children and other defenseless people in order to get rid of witches.

I can’t help but talk to people about this. It’s so painful to think about, as if it were happening somehow next door.

I remember standing in the kitchen years ago with my brother-in-law, listening to my sister crying hysterically about the war in Vietnam. Neither of us knew what to do to comfort her.

Does anyone know what to do, not just in Madera, but anywhere?

Ken Butler,
Madera
