Letter: Issues with illegal aliens (Jan. 22)

I suppose I am writing this letter on behalf of my fellow Americans. I honestly mean no harm to anyone, I am a Mexican myself, and I also speak Spanish. My goal is to speak to the people for the people and for the way I see things.

Illegal, first of all, means not sanctioned by official rules, so why do we continue to give these illegal people welfare? The more kids, the more welfare we give. This is welfare fraud, plain and simple. They don’t need I.D., but we do. They don’t even have to speak our language. It’s all our own fault.

The Constitution says that anyone born on United States soil is a citizen, but it also states don’t break the law. The law should come first. They have disrespected our system, and we continue to let it happen. Our schools are overcrowded because of all these illegal kids.

These people break the law and come here, and if they have a kid they are rewarded with money, food stamps, and an apartment.

WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a joke. All you see with WIC are illegal aliens.

If Obama can’t cut the mustard, we need somebody else who will, and that’s the bottom line.

Farm workers I respect because they are trying to do something for us. You have people that went to school, learned English, paid and became legal, then you have most that want legalization to be handed to them for nothing.

Ah, everyone loves generalizations and statements that cannot necessarily be backed up by facts. So people should enjoy this letter..

    Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren’t being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today’s American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the United States of America as one people.

When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country’s flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I’m sorry, that’s not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900’s deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn’t start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

This is in response to Mrs. Soto’s letter.

I’m confused. She wants President Obama to measure up, as she put it. Measure up to what? All the mess he inherited from previous presidents or the immigration (illegals) problems.

I agree with her on illegals, but the problem has been here under every president since before first Bush. Not one of them did anything. They had years, and she wants President Obama to solve it in the single year he has been in office, along with all the other problems he inherited.

Why don’t you and everyone else write to their senators and representatives? We elected them; tell them to do something about illegals.

I am way outspoken and I tell people, yes they can deport 1 million; that still would leave 7-8 million more.

Mrs. Soto, I can see by your letter, you are very well read. You ever hear the story about the mice and the cat? The question is “Who will put the bell on the cat?”

I do not run the country, but in my opinion, the answer is simple. The children are eligible for aid because they are US citizens.

To solve the problem, deport the parents. I guarantee you not one of them would leave their children behind in a country they have no way of knowing if they would ever come back. Would you?

This is just my opinion, not that it’s going anywhere.

Give President Obama a chance, he has to work through Congress. Congress runs the country. Tell them to measure up.

To Mrs. Lupe Garcia (letter of Feb. 10): I deeply apologize for being so hard on Mr. Obama, and you are right, the problems have been here for decades; he has taken on a very hard job, and I do understand that our past presidents have let this matter (illegal immigration) go too far. He knew that this was a going to be a hard job when he took it, he just didn’t understand how hard.

This immigrant matter is suppose to come up in a matter of months and the people want something to be done about this, some are looking forward to it, and they should understand that it is not all up to Mr. Obama. Like you said, it’s up to the Congress also, and they dislike immigrants.

And, please don’t forget that Mexicans didn’t vote for Mr. Obama, so how can they expect something good to happen? He is well aware that they came here for welfare and they are having all these kids, and Congress is aware of this also.

Now, you stated that if you remove 1 million you still have 7? We shouldn’t have let this get this far in the first place. We are at fault for this mess, and they are taking advantage of our system.

I say give them three months warning that they will be cut off welfare, then see if they don’t save that welfare money and leave, and take their welfare families with them.

They don’t have all those kids in Mexico, that’s how you know that they are taking advantage of our system. Decent people are losing their jobs and we hate to say it is our own fault, they come here to start a family on welfare and its killing us because they don’t know when to stop, they are greedy people, they want more and more and more, this has to stop somewhere.

I say send them home, and we will get rid of the drugs and we won’t have to worry about the border anymore because they have a lot to do with drug smuggling.

You are right Mrs. Garcia, someone really need to put a bell on this cat.
