Changes coming to main Tribune site

The main Web site of The Madera Tribune ( www.maderatribune.com ) will be going through a significant change within a few weeks as we shift from our current free online publication to a subscription-only news site. This change is being made, in part, because we realized months ago that it wasn’t cost-effective to keep the main site updated daily for free. However, this Red Line site (www.maderatribuneredline.com) will continue as a free online public forum for the city and county of Madera.

What a shame that you will not be able to read the Tribune online anymore. Being a former resident of Madera, I am always interest in what is going on with my hometown. Now living in Oregon I won’t be able to read the news unless I pay for it, WOW, not surprising for the Tribune to make a change. I hope you will reconsider since your online is not updated every day.

Why would anyone want to pay for an online subscription when The Madera Tribune has not been very consistent in the past as to when and if they might publish something daily online?

I’m disappointed that there will soon be a charge for the use of the Trib online site. It was nice to keep up on folks I used to know and to find out how the town I used to live in is doing.

I guess I’ll have to now depend on the Fresno Bee’s Web site for that. If cost and time is an issue for the daily upkeep/maintenance for the site, then you might want to consider recruiting an MHS student who excels at computers and has high grades that would like to get some extra credit for his/her high school transcript when s/he applies for college. I truly believe it would be a win-win situation, with the student getting a chance to do something special, and for the Trib to have a way to have the information updated more frequently.

In the meantime, this woman from Pittsburgh, PA will be sad to see my free access to the goings on in Madera end.

In regards to making your main Web site a pay site: The site was never updated daily in the first place. There are still articles from July. Hopefully with your new site it will contain everything that the paper has for that day including classifieds. Maybe try reporting or have a section on progress the city is making in regards to the shopping malls, new housing, the casino, and other things that could change our lives when living in Madera. Right now The Madera Tribune is an OK newspaper, but not a great paper. Best of luck.

WEBMASTER’S NOTE: Thank you for the comment. Up until the most recent two months the Web site was (excepting glitches and such) updated almost daily, although the content was intentionally delayed by a day. Past articles remained available for viewing as a matter of convenience for our readers, who may have wished to search past issues. The new Web site will appear on the same day and with the same content as the published paper for that day. This naturally will include the classified advertising.

How could i get a holocaust survivor to come to speak, how the gangs were when they were in the situaion they were in? See most of these children are doing most things they do not understand. They think gangs are cool, but they cannot see what is the worst part about that. I understand that when someone was captured they were either killed or taken, had a number and a symbol engraved onto their skin. Its the same thing with natives, but we’re just given band number to sort us out as individuals. I think this would be very important, maybe to help the children and older teen to understand… maybe even the whole community… if i cannot be reached please leave a message, thank you.

I hope you reconsider the whole pay site thing. I too live out of the area and only read about two articles out of the entire site anyway. Well, Fresno Bee…here I come!

I wish you would reconsider the pay site idea. It’s unfortunate that a company that could afford to buy out a little paper company like the Madera Tribune doesn’t have the money to keep a website up for no cost. The website is rarely kept up daily as it is. What is the promise that after paying the fee, when logging on to read, that it will not still be two day old news reports (if not longer)?

Editor, you intentionally took down my truthful post. Why do you censure the truth? Afraid it will hurt your chances? Everyone is correct except you.

You also lied about the updates to the website. For example, when we had fires down in SoCal, that news didn’t make it to your site for at least a week and a half. A week and a hal delay is unacceptable.

You are lying and misrepresenting the truth. You haven’t done anything to the best of your ability.

As for the fires in Southern California, it has repeatedly been announced that the main site is no longer being updated daily. Up until last week it was updated once a week, but the emphasis has been on the local news and not on news that can be found elsewhere on the Internet. After Nov. 17 the news on the Web site has not been updated at all since it will soon be replaced by the new site.

    and one other thing…

What did you say about the online version competing with the print version? That is ridiculous.

Have you ever read the online and print versions of the New York times, OC Register, Whittier Daily News or San Gabriel Valley Tribune? These are just to name a few sites that post daily if not hourly updates that are probably even MORE current then their print editions.

I live in Colorado, but I still like to keep up on the news in the Valley since it affects my family in the area. But I will lose that ability once maderatribune.com becomes a pay site. I agree with Jim. I will switch to the Fresno Bee once this happens.

Well, regardless of what you may think over their at the Tribune, the opinions of the people are largely against you on this one. If you are trying to make a little money at this whole news business, maybe there needs to be more accounting of where your revenue is going.
